I Love You, Thora Levine

Things I learned about my daughter while dress shopping for her Girl Scouts ‘Daddy & Me‘ dance:
*She willingly grooves to the ’80’s channel on XM Radio:
Hit me with your best shot
Why don’tcha hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire awaaay!
*She looks stunning in giant Easter hats:

*She wants to change her name:
Peyton:  I don’t like my name.  I wanna change it.
Me:  Umm, okay, what did you have in mind?
                         Peyton: {mumble, mumble}
                          Me:  What?  Flora?
                         Peyton:  No,  THORA.  Thora Levine.
*She still loves twirly dresses:

*She doesn’t realize that clear heels eventually lead to pole-dancing:
After a loud argument in the middle of the store,
we did not
 get these shoes.

*She is a giant pain-in-the-ass to go dress shopping with, but doesn’t she look lovely?
I love you, Thora Levine.

  1. Okay, I LOL'd at the clear heels pole dancing correlation. It's funny that she's already chosen her stripper name.

Full disclosure: I wanted to be a stripper when I was little because strippers got to be naked at work.

  2. I love shopping with my daughter (10). I learn so much about her when we head out together. They change so quickly and their tastes seem to change overnight. I would love to know where she got that name from!

  3. I have absolutely NO idea where she came up with that name - we were just driving, and out of the blue we had this totally random conversation (not to mention the fact that she is Irish on both sides!) I would have laughed if I wasn't so confused...

  5. How cute! And I love the flats she ended up wearing too. I was a child in the 80's and begged my mother to let me wear high heeled shoes with the little girl, ruffle edged socks and she told me that only prostitutes wore them, so I couldn't wear them. Looking back, I'm sure she wouldn't have gotten me the high heels either, but the look has always screamed "NO" to me.

  6. I WANT that blue satin hat! Also? I love how she's posing for her final photo.

  7. The clear heels were DEFINITELY a dealbreaker! I let her get the flats as a compromise. They are 'metallic pewter' so although they don't have a heel, they ARE shimmery. Much like her mother, the girl is easily distracted by shiny objects. Also, I got her a pair of black sunglasses with rhinestones. Winning!

  8. She had her hands at her sides at first (looked like a mug shot,) so I told her to give me "jazz hands." Perfect!

I had more Crazy-Easter-Hat pics, but those two were the best. I like the gold one myself, but I can't help but imagine them on Martin Lawrence dressed up as 'Big Momma' every time I see them!
